Abstract

Switches, quickbreak; indicators.- A switch which is closed and opened by successive actuations, in the same direction, of a rectilinearly-moving operating-member comprises a U-shaped contact - member 8 pivoted at 9 to a frame 29 fixed to the recessed switch base 1, a latch 16 pivoted at 15 to the frame, a U-shaped spring-controlled stirrup 20 also pivoted at 15 for releasing the latch, and a plunger 25, Fig. 4, for operating the switch. To close the switch the plunger 25, which together with part of the button 24 through which it passes protrudes through the cover, is depressed carrying the button with it. The button is secured to the contact-member 8 which is thereby forced between the fixed clip contacts, and a cross-bar 18 fixed between the arms of the contact-member is engaged by the latch to retain the contact-member in the closed position. The depressed position of the button serves to indicate that switch is closed. In the closing movement described, the plunger-rod passes idly through a hole 14 in the frame and, when the pressure on the button is removed, the plunger rises. To open the switch, the button is again depressed and engages the cross-member of the stirrup 20 which has taken up a position beneath the hole 14, so that the latch is depressed to release the contact-member which returns to the off position under the action of the spring 11,. together with the indicating button.
