Abstract

An articulated truck-trailer combination comprises a truck 2 and a trailer 14 each having at least two axles 4, 6 and 16, 18. In order to reduce the clearance necessary between the truck and the trailer for negotiating bends and thus to increase the load-carrying length of the truck and trailer for a given overall length, there is a single vertical pivot axis 22 between the truck and trailer; the pivot axis 22 is situated near the front of the trailer and a steering axle 16 of the trailer is situated close to, and preferably passes through, the pivot axis 22. Preferably the trailer is connected to the truck by a towbar 24 which is attached to the truck in such a way that it is rigid with the truck in a horizontal plane and is pivoted to the trailer to turn about the axis 22. <IMAGE>
