Drying cylinders. - A steamtight joint is maintained between the inlet pipe D and the trunnion A of a drying- cylinder by forming on the end of the pipe, which is connected to the steam main by a flexible tube E<1>, an enlargement D<1> having a seating d, the seating being held against a corresponding seating c on the sleeve C by the pressure of the steam inside the cylinder. When the pressure within the cylinder falls below that of the atmosphere, air will pass through the ports c<3> in the sleeve into the cylinder.
