Abstract

198,269. Haddan, R., (Holyoke Vacuum Sluice Co.). Aug. 9, 1922. Cylinder paper machines.-Free water and air bubbles are removed from the pulp layer or layers of a paper board or cylinder machine by a vacuum sluice applied at the top of the cylinder, above the felt, and in front of the couch roll 7. The sluice consists of a tubular body 12 provided with a slotted extension, the flanges 12<a>, 14<a> of which rest on the felt 4. Cylindrical extensions of the sluice are provided with inspection windows 30. The sluice is adjustably mounted in standards 8 and connected at 33 to a suction pump. The length of the slot is varied according to the width of the pulp layer by a valve plate 21, Fig. 8, secured on a sliding rod 19 mounted in an extension 18.
