Suction apparatus.-In a suction roll for paper machines, the sides of the suction chamber comprise flexible bow shaped portions 25 connecting the upper members 26 to the rigid parts 21. The members 26 are mounted on cross members 39 carrying adjusting screws 38 resting on the ends of levers 34 pivoted at 35 and adjustable by a rod 42 carrying pins 40 engaging slots 41 in the ends of the levers 34. The rod 42 passes through the end of a hollow shaft and is adjusted by rotating a nut 44, a spring 43 ensuring yielding contact of the suction cham. ber with the interior of the roll.
