Abstract

197,944. Lind, A. May 18, 1922, [Convention date]. Valves.-In an engine of the type in which cylinders parallel to the shaft and having one end forming a pump chamber are provided with pistons reciprocated by swash-plate mechanism, the passage of mixture from a charge-forming chamber to a storage reservoir, and from the reservoir to the combustion chambers, is regulated by a rotary valve. Air and fuel enter the chargeforming chamber 16 by passages 17, 18 respectively and are drawn into the pump chambers 4 through a passage 21 in the rotary valve 19 and ports 22, 23, and towards the end of the suction stroke, further air is drawn into the pump chamber through ports 26, 23. On the return stroke of the pump, the mixture is forced through port 23, valve passage 24, and passage 25 to the central storage reservoir 20, from which it passes to the combustion chambers 2 by passages 29. The valve 19 is pressed against its seating by a resilient washer 27. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a modification in which the valve 19 is conical. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
