Abstract

Opening by cutting or tearing.-A flexible tearing strip 2 is disposed beneath the outer lid 1 of a can &c. and is adapted, when operated, to rupture the lid across the crown. The fixed end of the strip may be soldered to the inner lid 9, or it may be gripped between the flanges of the two lids as shown in Fig. 3. A pull-ring 7 is secured to the free end of the strip which either emerges through a slot in the outer lid, which is indented to receive the ring, or passes out between the flanges as shown in Fig. 5.
