Abstract

287,974. Jacobsen, C. Jan. 4, 1927. Opening by cutting or tearing. - Relates to cans having the wall formed with a band or belt 5, Fig. 1, of thin material produced by rolling the metal and adapted to be torn out along the edges 4 to separate the top 2 from the lower part. The band is provided with a tongue 6 formed with an opening 7 through which an instrument can be inserted to facilitate the tearing operation. The opening may be of elongated form and may have the edges beaded to strengthen it. In the modified construction shown in Fig. 3 the tongue consists of a wire loop 8, soldered or otherwise attached to the band.
