Description

- v J. STUTZ CHEESE AND LIK Box Filed Oct. '3l 1924 Patented May 4, 1926.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH STUTZ, OF 'USTER, SWITZERLAND, ASSIGNOR T0 SCHWEIZERKSE-KON- SERVEN A. G., OF SCI-IINDELLEGI, SCHWYZ, SWITZERLAND.
CHEESE AND LIKE BOX.
Application filed October 31, 1924.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnrH STUTZ, a citizen 0f the Swiss Republic, residing at Uster, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improve-ments Relating to Cheese and likeBoxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boxes for packing cheese and the like and of the kind composed of two dished covers which are fitted together over a central ring, one cover being detachable and normally sealed in position by means of a paper strip paste-d round the box.
The object of the present invention is to provide this box with a convenient seal breaking member yof the kind composed of a thin metal strip which is interposed between the lid and the box and adapted to be worked round the latter for breaking the sealing strip, the metal strip being normally concealed behind the sealing strip.
According to the present'invention the metal strip whereby the seal is broken is doubled upon itself, and the ends are bent off from the strip at right angles in opposite directions so that they can be interposed between the two abutting covers and the central body ring of the box.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing by a sectional view of the box and of the seal breaking member.
The box is composed of two dished covers a and b which are fitted together, edge to edge, over a central ring c forming the body of the box. One cover is detachable' and is Serial N0. 746,991.
normally sealed in position by means of a paper strip d which is pasted round the closed box.
To facilitate the breaking of the seal, a breaking vmember is accommodated between the abutting edges of the two covers so that it can be worked round the latter for tearing the sealing strip.
This seal breaker is composed of a thin metal strip f which is doubled upon itself. The free ends of this strip are bent over at right angles in opposite directions, and the vflaps f thus formed are inserted between the ring c and the two covers so that the doubled portion of the strip projects between the abutting edges Iof the cover. Before the box is sealed, the .strip f is folded against the side of the vsame as shown inthe drawing. To break the seal, the .strip is straightened out and then, guided by the flaps 7", worked round the box so as tocut the paper strip (Z.
I claim:
In a box for packing` cheese and the like, y
dated between the abutting edges of the covers with the ends interposed between the covers and the body ring; so Athat the strip can be slid between the edges round the box for cutting the sealing strip.
JOSEPH STUTZ.
