Abstract

1,079,782. Containers. REYNOLDS METALS CO. Oct. 8, 1964 [Oct. 11, 1963], No. 41153/64. Addition to 1,079,781. Heading A4G. [Also in Division B8] To seal the top flaps 38, 39, Fig. 1, of an open-ended box 30 similar to that of Specification 1,079,781, a clip 42 of plastics, paper &c. and including a flexible metal band or wire (46), Figs. 2, 4 (not shown), is stuck to one of the top flaps, so that after folding-down and sticking together of the top flaps when the container has been filled, the clip can be folded to engage the other top wall. In one form, the edge 44 of the clip 42 is folded over the side wall and its ends (45) tucked round behind the edge of a flexible liner 40, forming one side of a productreceiving compartment. The clip 42 may either be stuck to the top flap (39) before the rigid board 37 comprising the box 30 is folded to shape, or alternatively it may be stuck in position when the container is completely formed. The box is assembled from a flat blank and filled with a product as described in Specification 1,079,781. When the top flaps 38, 39 have been separated to open the container, they can be re-closed by replacing the clip. In a modification, a similar clip (68), Fig. 11 (not shown), of paper &c. with a wire or metal band reinforcement, is folded over and behind notches (87) in overlapping top flaps (66, 67) of the rigid board side walls (63, 64) of a cigar box. The top flaps (66, 67) are initially stuck together, but when the box has been once opened, they can be reclosed by replacing the clip (68). The outer wall of the box is formed by folding a rigid board having two transparent film windows (78) and two compartments (70) constituted by a flexible liner stuck at its edges to the box. The rigid bottom wall (62) of the box and the flexible liner stuck to it are perforated at (81), so that the box may be easily separated into two parts. In another modification, a box (88), Fig. 17 (not shown), has its overlapping top flaps (94, 95) secured together by a clip (100) and comprises two sets of each of two compartments in sideby-side relationship. The rigid board forming the outer wall of the box (88) and the flexible liner stuck to it are perforated at (103), so that when one half of the box has been emptied, it may be torn off the remaining half.
