Abstract

1,240,768. Dispensing cartons. R. FRIEDENTHAL. 17 June, 1969 [19 June, 1968], No. 30625/69. Heading B8P. In order to dispense fluent material from a liner 12 enclosed within a container 10, an ear 16 of the liner is withdrawn and simultaneously ruptured to form a spout 58 by at least partly removing from the container an element having an opening 44 through which the ear projects before withdrawal and rupturing means 42 which engage the ear upon withdrawal. As shown, the element comprises an apertured container closure flap 32 to which is attached a pointed metal strip 42 and a substantially U-shaped breakaway section 48 of a container side-wall 34, the closure flap 32 and ear 16 being loosely sandwiched between two opposed closure flaps one of which 24 has a lip 36 which is bonded to the side-wall 28 of the container. The liner 12 may be a plastics bag and the container may be made from cardboard.
