Abstract

217,260. Young, J. M. Jan. 11, 1923. Opening by tearing. - A can for liquid food-stuffs &c. is provided with an internal strip or band 21 making a liquid-tight fit with the body and serving to prevent spilling of the contents on removal of the key-wound tearing strip 18, and also to prevent leakage due to corrosion of the weakened metal at the scorings 15, 16. The strip, as shown, extends upwardly beyond the scoring 15, and is secured to the body of the can a short distance below the scoring 16. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 209,889.
