Abstract

193,497. Prentice, A. T. Nov. 24, 1921. Seat bottoms and backs; adjustments.- The side-frames a, c of the bottom and the back of a reclining chair are formed with their inner edges curved with a definite contour, corresponding with the shape of the body and legs of the user and are connected by spring strips d which preserve the continuity of the curve. The back c is connected by the arm g to the approximately vertical member e which is pivoted to the seat a at i and is provided with extensions f connected by a bracing k which carries a swivelling nut o through which a threaded rod m passes, allowing adjustment of the back from the front of the chair by the handwheel p. In the modified means of adjustment shown in Fig. 4, the extensions fare connected by the right- and left-hand threaded rod q, which carries nuts r sliding on the inclined faces s. Hand-wheels t at the sides of the chair operate the rod q to adjust the back. Specification 150,117 is referred to.
