Abstract

17,501. Wright, E. M. Dec. 14. Valve-gear; valves.-In engines provided with split cylindrical slide valves which are bored eccentrically, the valve stem 12 is united to the boss 16, Fig. 13, during casting. The boss is carried by an arm 17 extending from the thickest part of the valve. The valve is actuated by a cam 15 mounted on a shaft rotated at half engine-speed. In modified constructions, the valve is formed with stepped ends, or with ports near its ends.
