Valves; valve-gear.-In a horizontal four-stroke engine having two cylinders side by side and a single cam shaft D parallel to the cylinders, the admission and exhaust valves B<1>, C<1> of the first cylinder are actuated by a cam G, the former through linkage K<1>, L<1>, M<1>, M<2>, and the latter by means of a lever O<1>, O<2>, and a second cam F operates the admission valve B<2> of the second cylinder through linkage K<2>, L<2>, N, N<1>, 0, N<2> and the second exhaust valve C' through linkage P. P<1>, Q, P<2>. Four separate cams may be used for the four valves. The invention may be applied to a four-cylinder engine, a duplicate cam shaft being provided alongside the fourth cylinder. Regulating.-The levers K<1>, R<2> for the admission valves are eccentrically mounted on their fulcrum pin K to allow adjustment. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the pin K is formed with an eccentric portion Q to carry the lever K<1>, while the lever K<2> is carried on an eccentric bush K<4> rotatable around the pin K. In a modification, both levers K<1>, K<2> are mounted on eccentricbushes rotatable on the pin K.
