Abstract

Valve gear.-In valve gear comprising a cam actuating diverging inlet and exhaust valves by a single rocker, the length of the rocker is reduced by arranging the exhaust valve 11 substantially parallel to the cylinder axis, while retaining the inlet valve 10 inclined; or the exhaust valve, may be inclined towards the inlet valve. Adjustment for wear is obtained by providing the shaft 3, carrying the cam 6 and timing-gear 24, with an eccentric portion 26, which is clamped in position by a nut 27. The cam acts directly or through a rocker on a push-rod 5 connected to the valve rocker 8, the inlet valve being opened by a spring 14 on the push-rod, or by a spring surrounding the exhaust valve spring 18 and acting on the rocker 8 ; or a tension spring may act on the inlet valve end of the rocker for this purpose. The invention is applicable to engines constructed as described in Specification 295,530, [Class 7 (ii). Internal-combustion engines, Arrangement &c. of].
