Abstract

9601. Spenoe, W. L. July 1. Two - stroke - cycle engines; driving - gear. -A double-acting working cylinder B and a doubleacting charging-pump A are disposed respectively on opposite sides of a central crank-shaft (not shown), their pistons being connected to cranks at 180 degrees, preferably by pin-and-slot mechanism. The pump cylinder may be of larger diameter than the working cylinder, the masses of their reciprocating parts being equal. Combustible mixture is drawn into the pump through common inlet ports C, charges of scavenging-air being admitted to the delivery pipes E, E<1> through valves V, V<1> respectively. The pump may compress air. Exhaust ports are shown at H. According to the Provisional Specification, each cylinder may compress a pump charge in one end, the opposite end serving as a combustion space. Also, fuel injected into the cylinder may be ignited by impinging on quartz or other heat-insulating material secured in the piston or cylinder walls.
