Abstract

12,352. Tugwood, R. J., [Engineering and Development Co. of America]. May 27. Two-stroke-cycle engines; driving-gear; crank chambers.-In an engine which compresses combustible mixture in the front end of its cylinder, the admission port to the pump space is closed by the piston during the admission of the charge to the working end of the cylinder. In an engine having its cylinders arranged in pairs each piston may have an outside rod secured to a crank-shaft and the trunnions to which the connecting-rods are attached may carry slippers which slide in guide brackets. Combustible mixture enters the pump space through a disk valve 28 and a port 32 which is overrun by the piston, the charge entering the cylinder through a port 33 in the piston and a transfer passage 36. The crank chamber may be open at its ends.
