191,465. Stirling Boiler Co., Ltd., and Watt, W. W. Oct. 12, 1921. Hydrocarbons, distilling; separate heater and evaporator apparatus.- Petroleum is passed in succession through upper and lower drums connected by tubes 3 - - 6, over which gases heated to 500-600‹ F. pass from an inlet 12. Each of the upper drums 7, 8, 9 is surmounted by a dephlegmating-column 13, a scrubber 16 containing a coil 17 through which water, or oil to be preheated, is passed, and a vapour drum 18 leading by a pipe 19 to a condenser. The oil is supplied through an inlet 10 to the coolest of the lower drums 1, which is divided by a partition 11. The oil passes up through tubes 3 to the drum 7, down through tubes 3 to the drum 1 on the opposite side of the partition 11, up tubes 4 to drum 8 down tubes 5 to drum 2 and up tubes 6 to drum 9. Saturated or superheated steam may be introduced into the upper and lower drums.
