Abstract

154,558. Granger, L., Mariller, C., and Soc. GÚnÚrale d'Evaporation (Procedes Prache et Bouillon), (formerly Soc. Anon d'Exploitation de ProcÚdÚs Evaporatoires, (SystÞme Prache et Bouillon)). Nov. 26, 1919, [Convention date]. Generating by indirect contact of heated gases.-The condensation of vapours in apparatus for distilling crude mineral oils, volatile hydrocarbons, alcoholic liquids &c. is utilized to generate steam which may be used for heating or power-producing. When distilling liquids with a boiling-point lower than water, steam is generated under reduced pressure and may be compressed. As applied to a continuous apparatus for distilling crude mineral oil, the oil is passed by a pipe 1, through a dephlegmator D, a water separator E and a preheater F to a column A in which petrol vapours are driven off and condensed in the dephlegmator D. The oil passes from the column A through a pipe 9, heater I and pipe 14 to a column B. The oil passes from the base of the column to a boiler C, the residues from which pass to the preheater F. Vapours pass from the column B by three pipes 11, 12, 13. The heavy vapours from ripe 13 are condensed in the heater I. The vapours from the pipe 12 pass to a steam-generator K of the type in which water is circulated rapidly through a number of tubes, either by heat action in inclined tubes or by a pump or impeller, so that steam will be generated when the temperature of the vapours is only slightly above the boiling point of water under the pressure maintained in the generator. The light vapours from the pipe 11 pass to a second steam-generator L of the same type. The steam from the generator K may be used in the heater G, the condensed water from which is returned to the generator K by a pump P. Residual steam and the steam from the generator L pass to a cylinder M, from which the steam may pass for the production of motive power, or may be compressed by a device T and used for heating purposes. The various oil condensates pass through a refrigerator J to the test glasses H. In non-continuous apparatus the vapours from a still are passed on their way to a condenser through a steam generator which is kept for example under a pressure of 6 atmospheres, so that steam is generated at about 150‹ C. by vapours at a temperature slightly above this, namely, about 163-165‹ C.
