Abstract

283,269. Novak, H., and Brod, A. Oct. 5, 1926. Mineral and tar oils, extracting.-Coal, brown coal, &c. is treated to obtain oils and semi-coke, by heating it admixed wih an aromatic hydrocarbon liquid boiling above 230‹ C. The heating is effected under 25-30 atmospheres pressure in an autoclave fitted with a reflux pipe connected to a condenser. The temperature is raised gradually to 500‹ C. Benzine distils over, followed by the aromatic liquid which is used again. The residue is subjected to dry distillation yielding a distillate of tar rich in aliphatic compounds and a residue of semi-coke. Suitable aromatic liquids are 1 : 6-dimethylnaphthalene, 1-methylnaphthalene or other alkyl naphthalene, anthracene oil or liquid fractions of coal tar or generator tar in which .solid aromatic hydrocarbons may be dissolved.
