Abstract
199,766. Hanna, H. W, Feb. 27, 1922. Hydrocarbons, distilling and cracking.-The oils are distilled under reduced pressure and the distillates submitted to a cracking operation, preferably of the kind described in Specification 195,422. In obtaining the distillates, the oil, forced by a pump 3, Fig. 2. is preheated by the vapours and the residual oil in exchangers 5, 11, and is passed in succession through a series of stills 14 maintained under reduced pressure by a pump 82. The vapours pass through exchangers 5, condensers 94, and inspection chambers 17 to collecting chambers 19 from which the condensates are pumped to storage vessels 23. The inspection chambers, collecting chambers, and storage vessels are preferably arranged in duplicate for each still. The distillate is cracked by circulating it, together with a solvent oil of lower boiling-point, through a closed system under suitable temperature and pressure conditions, for example, 745-800‹ F. and 105-120 lb. per sq. in.
