Abstract

232,724. Koppers Coke Oven Co., Ltd., (Koppers, H.). Feb. 9, 1924. Hydrocarbons, distilling; progressive evaporators.-In distilling benzol, &c. from wash oils, the apparatus is arranged so that circulation of the oil is not affected by the degree of reduced pressure in the apparatus. A pump 11 draws wash oil from a container 10 and forces it through a heat-exchanger 12 and pipe 15 into a still 14. The residual oil passes by a pipe 13 through the heat-exchanger 12, where it acts as heating- agent for the incoming oil, and to a stand-pipe 17 which is discharged at a constant level by a pipe 18, so as to maintain the exchanger 12 full of oil. Vapours pass from the still to a column 21 and a cooler 22 connected to a vacuum pump 23. The still 14 consists of an inclined vessel fitted with staggered partitions 30 and heated by gas burners 25, the hot gases from which pass through a preheater 26 for the air supply to the burners, the heated air being supplied through perforated pipes 29 below the burners.
