Abstract
191,295. Wikner, S. W. A., and Newcastle-upon-Tyne & Gateshead Gas Co. Jan. 27, 1922. Hydrocarbons, distilling.-Tar is submitted to a preliminary dehydration and is then heated by the vapours from the main distillation and finally passed into the main stills. The dehydration is effected in a cylindrical boiler B continuously supplied with tar to maintain a definite level and heated by steam pipes Q, Fig. 4, supported just below the level of the liquid. Vapours pass down open-ended pipes T, through tubes U immersed in the tar, and are led, if necessary, to a condenser. The dehydrated tar is withdrawn by a pump C, Fig. 1, and is passed in succession through vessels E, E<1>, E<2> containing coils which receive the vapours from the main stills and which lead the vapours to condensers M, M<1>, M<2>, and is then passed through a coil K in a pitch vat L, and through the stills G, G', G<2>.
