Abstract
307,577. Wilton, T. O., and Chemical Engineering & Wilton's Patent Furnace Co., Ltd. Jan. 10, 1928. Hydrocarbons, distilling.-Tar is dehydrated and distilled by circulating the tar continuously through a plant including a coil still heated to over 300‹ C., crude tar being added from time to time to make up for the quantity distilled. The plant comprises a feed tank e closed by a cover g and supplied as requited with crude tar to make up that distilled. The tar is continuously pumped by a pump h through a line l and heat exchanger d to a. coil a heated to over 300‹. The products from :the coil a flow to a vapour box b from which the vapours pass to a condenser c and separator m, while the residual liquid is returned by a pipe k to the tank e. Vapours collecting in the tank e pass through a pipe n to a condensernot shown. The pitch gradually formed by the continuous circulation of the tar is tapped off through the coil p of the heat exchanger d and may be reduced to hard pitch by passing steam therethrough.
