<PICT:0388722/III/1> Mineral oils are distilled by feeding them from a reservoir m through a pipe n and valved distributor p so that they flow in films over an inclined plate b enclosed in a chamber a and heated by steam flowing through a chamber c, the steam passing finally by a nozzle g into direct contact with the oil accumulating at the bottom of the chamber. The mixed vapours and steam pass off through a pipe l and are condensed in a coil u, the condensate collecting in a separator w from which water is removed through a pipe y, and oil through a pipe z. Additional steam may be supplied to the space d about the oil level by means of a branch pipe h terminating in a valved nozzle k. Residual oil is removed through a valve s.
