Abstract

<PICT:0405394/III/1> Solvent is recovered from the sludge remaining in the used-solvent still of dry - cleaning plant by passing live steam through the sludge, condensing the vapours in cold water, and separating the solvent by gravity. Suitable apparatus comprises a tank 1 provided with a pipe 4 for admitting sludge, a pipe 9 for admitting steam, a pipe 7 for running off residue to a receiver 3, and a vapour outlet pipe 12 dipping beneath water in a tank 2 and fitted with an automatic vacuum-relief valve 17.
