Abstract
337,581. Wilton, T. O., and Chemical Engineering & Wilton's Patent Furnace Co., Ltd. June 13, 1929.Addition to 307,577. Hydrocarbons, distilling.-In the process for distilling tar described in the parent Specification more intimate admixture of the crude tar and the pitch from the process is obtained by introducing them side by side through pipes yinto the constant level tank b. The mixture is then fed to the heating coils f, g and vapour box from which vapours pass to condensers k, l, while the pitch is returned through a pipe o to the tank b. When the pitch has reached the required consistency a proportion is tapped off through a valve q and led to a still r where the residual volatile constituents' are removed by straining and condensed in a condenser t. The vapours evolved from the box j at the commencement of the process are condensed separately in a condenser n. Vacuum may be applied to any of the separating tanks v of the condensers. The crude tar from a storage tank a is preheated by the pitch in an exchanger e and fed to the tank b through a constant level device c. Specifications 26910/07 and 127,700 are referred to.
