Abstract

239,841. Halden, C. Ab-der-. Sept. 13, 1924, [Convention date]. Hydrocarbons, distilling; rectifiers. -In distilling coal tar or other substance which leaves a considerable residue, preheated tar is fed by a pipe 9 into a still 1 filled with residue from distillation maintained by a furnace, steam-jacket, &c. at the boiling point of the highest fraction. Steam, carbon dioxide or lighting gas is injected through a device 3 to agitate the liquid. Excess of residue from the still 1 passes by a pipe 7 through a tank containing a coil 6 for preheating the tar. The vapours pass by a pipe 10 into the base of a rectifying column 11. Cold water, oil or solutions of reagents, such as an alkaline solution, are supplied by pipes 12, 13 to various points of the by discharge pipes 17. Vapours pass from the top oi the column to a final condenser 15. If gas is injected into the still, it passes away through the outlet 16 of the condenser 15 and is compressed and returned to the still. The vapours may be passed in series through a number of rectifying columns. Specification 158,875 is referred to.
