Abstract

19,613. Rundlof, E. A. Sept. 12, 1913, [Convention date]. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-In order to direct the spray of fuel towards the hotter part of the vaporizer at starting or during light loads, and to the cooler part during heavy loads, a jet of compressed air, gas, or steam is employed. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the fuel when injected alone is supplied to the conduit 3 and issues through the nozzle into a divergent stream 4, which reaches the hot part of the vaporizer 1 ; but if the gaseous medium is injected simultaneously through the valve 2, the fuel is directed towards the jacketed part of the vaporizer. In another form, the air nozzle is external to the fuel nozzle and arranged at an angle to it. This method can be used for starting the engine by first heating the vaporizer.
