Abstract

28,598. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Dec. 11. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - Liquid - fuel injection devices, in which the fuel is injected by a blast of air, are constructed in a form specially suitable to be placed horizontally, as, for instance in a vertical engine with opposed pistons. The nozzle contains a plug 12 having a part 13 bored divergently and having a spiral groove 24 connected at 26 with the liquid fuel supply, and terminating in a ring having a great number of small passages 25. Compressed air from the conduit 14<a> passes through the plug 12, where its pressure is lowered by expansion, and also acts on the fuel in the conduit 24, tending to force it through the passages 25. According to a modification, the end of the plug 12 is separate and the spiral conduit terminates in an annular portion.
