Abstract

141. Junkers, H. Jan. 6, 1912, [Convention date]. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - Cylinders having oppositely moving pistons 3 have the injection points 5, 6, arranged in more than one transverse plane so that, during expansion, the streams of fuel have a tendency to follow the pistons. The fuel may be injected along a radius or along a chord. According to another arrangement, the fuel is spread in radial jets or in sheets from nozzles at the axis of the cylinder. This form allows the fuel to be heated before admission. Two injection points may be combined within a single nozzle. A watercooled nozzle is shown in section in Fig. 10 The water is circulated at different levels through the conduits 31, 32; it enters by the passage 33 and leaves by the passage 34.
