Cutting slices in succession.-An appliance for slicing meat, ham, sausages, &c. comprises a knife suspended by a system of levers so as to be capable of vertical and horizontal movement similar to an ordinary hand slicing-knife, the knife-bolder being guided by a vertical frame and fitted with an adjustable device for varying the thickness of the slice. The knife 19 is screwed to a holder 18 and is guided against transverse movement by a pair of upright bars 3, 4 taking between the holder and inclined rods 8, 9. The bars 3, 4 are secured to a metal standard 1, on which the table 2 is supported. The outer ends of the knife-holder 18 are suspended by links 12 from arms 13 pivoted on the standard 1 and geared together by toothed segments 16. The lower part of the knife-holder 18 is provided with a resilient gauge plate 22, which is adjustable by an eccentric 24 on the shaft 26. The material to be cut is placed on the table 2 and is pressed with the left hand against the gauge plate 22, while the knife is operated by the handle 11. By turning a handle 27 secured to the shaft 26, the thickness of the slice may be varied.
