Abstract

387. Anzani, A. Jan. 10, 1913, [Convention date]. Compression engines; four-stroke-cycle engines. -Four sets of (2n + 1) cylinders are arranged radially in four planes, the cylinders of sets 1 and 2 working on to one crank pin a and those of sets 3 and 4 on to another crank c at an angle of 180 Π360/4(2n + 1) degrees with the first crank. In end view, the cylinders of set 2 bisect the angles between the cylinders of set 1, and those of sets 3 and 4 bisect the angles between the cylinders of sets 1 and 2. A fourstroke engine with twenty cylinders has one cam with swells at 180 degrees, and driven in the opposite direction to, and at a quarter the speed of, the crank-shaft for each set of cylinders, the cam for cylinder set 2 being at 45 degrees to that of cylinder set 1, the cam for set 3 being at 63 degrees to that of cylinder set 2, and the cam for cylinder set 4 at 45 degrees to that of cylinder set 3 measured in the direction of rotation of the crank. The cranks a, c are 162 degrees apart.
