Valves; valve - gear. - In an engine in which a single rotating sleevevalve 4 in the cylinder controls admission and exhaust, the ends of the sleeve are formed with cam - surfaces 15, 16, engaging rollers 17 on the engine casing, and the sleeve receives a longitudinal reciprocating movement which is always in the same direction as the piston. The ports are inclined as shown, in order to obtain a good opening of the ports. The sleeve may be rotated at less than half the speed of the crank-shaft, the number of ports and the shape of the cam-surfaces being varied to correspond.
