Abstract

Four-stroke-cycle engines. - In two-cylinder engines, the cylinders 1, 2 are fitted respectively with opposed pistons 3, 4 and 5, 6, the pistons 4, 6 being connected to cranks 13, 15 on the same side of the shaft 9, and the pistons 3, 5 being connected through a yoke 11, slide 7, and connecting-rod 8 to a central crank 10 set oppositely to the cranks 13, 15. The valves are actuated so that an explosion occurs in one cylinder while the charge is being drawn into the other.
