Abstract

191,394. Schmidt'sche Heissdampf- Ges. Jan. 5, 1922, [Convention date]. Plates, jointing pipes to.-To prevent excessive stresses in the drums of a high-pressure watertube boiler due to transverse movements of the water-tubes upon expansion and contraction, the ends of the tubes are surrounded by plates which prevent transverse movements and at the same time allow the tubes to expand and contract. Plates f around the ends of the boiler tubes c are each built up of bevelled bars d, e. The bars d pass between the tubes and rest upon the boiler setting and upon rings g on the tubes. The bars e are supported upon the bevelled faces of the bars d and have recesses receiving the sides of the tubes. The tube holes in the drums are recessed on the outside of the drums and are countersunk on the inside. thus avoiding stresses on the outer surfaces of the drum plates due to the expansion and contraction of the tubes.
