Overheating of drums, preventing. - To prevent overheating the steam and water drum of a water-tube boiler, a protecting screen of tubes or other hollow bodies through which water, air or steam circulates is arranged below the drum. The tubes may be used for heating the feed-water or the air for combustion, or for superheating the steam. Protecting tubes c, Fig. 1, arranged below a drum a, are formed with overlapping longitudinal ribs d. The screen may be formed by rows of crossing tubes e, f, Fig. 4, placed between the boiler tubes b. The spaces between the tubes i, Fig. 8, arranged below drums a may be closed by refractory material or by ribs formed on the tubes.
