Exhaust-silencers.-The gases enter through a loose connexion b<1> an inner perforated chamber a housed in an outer chamber c with an annular passage between the chambers. The top part of the outer chamber forms a cover, and carries the inner chamber, which may be removed through a hole in the outer chamber. Water or air admitted through the pipe e is directed by a rose f over the inner chamber to mix with the gases. A drain a<3> is made in the inner chamber. An automatic air-valve may be provided to admit air if a vacuum occurs in the silencer. The chambers may be spherical or cylindrical.
