2996. Dunlop, J. B., and Dunlop, J. B. Feb. 9. Exhaust-silencers for internal-combustion engines. A tube A connected to the engine exhaust has openings a, a<1> and baffle-plates F, arranged as shown in Fig. 1, in the chambers B', the chambers being formed by division plates D attached to the inner casing E. The exhaust gases entering the tube A pass into the chambers B<1> through the openings a, and again into the tube through the openings a<1>. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which two tubes A, A' are arranged diametrically opposite in the chambers B<1>. Exhaust gases enter the tube A, which has a disc G at its centre, and pass into the chamber B' through the openings a. The gases then enter the closed tube A<1> through the openings a<1>, and pass into the second chamber through similar openings u<1>, finally reaching the tube A and escaping. Small holes may be provided in the division plates D to facilitate the escape of the gases.
