Abstract

23,318. Pilkington, G. Oct. 29. Exhaust-silencers are formed in one with the cylinders of internal-combustion engines such as are used on motor cars, bicycles, &c. The silencer comprises two chambers a<3>, a' separated by a partition a<2>, but intercommunicating by perforated pipes a<5>. The gases escape through perforations a<9> in the base of the chamber a<4> and through an opening a<10> to the space E between the chamber and cylinder. The exhaust-valve spindle works in the guide a<1>.
