209,874. Armstrong, Whitworth, & Co., Ltd., Sir W. G., and Scott, G. Nov. 2, 1922. Exhaust-silencers. - Means for silencing and cooling exhaust gases comprises an expansion chamber A, a cylinder B extending downwards from the top of the chamber, an inlet pipe C entering at the bottom, and water spray pipes D, G around the pipe C near its upper end and around the cylinder B near the lower end. The gases pass over the surface of water in the bottom of the chamber and through an outlet J, below which a baffle O may be provided. A door N may be provided for cleaning purposes.
