Abstract

12,171. Roots, J. D. May 24. Motor power plant.-A two-stroke-cycle Diesel or other engine cylinder A having terminal exhaust ports D exhausts into a cylinder E in which the combustion products are compressed until the end of the stroke, whereupon water is injected and converted into steam which works expansively on the following outstroke. The internal-combustion cylinders such as A, X may be cross-connected, or the working charges may be compressed in the crank casings or in separate pumps. According to the Provisional Specification, the invention is applicable to double-acting engines and to engines working on a four-stroke cycle.
