Abstract
191,221. Jensen, A. M., and Brµndstrup, K. P. Nov. 7, 1921. Slide valves, cylindrical. - A cylindrical slide valve common to two side-by-side cylinders of a vacuum or compression pump or other piston apparatus wherein the pistons are reciprocated by cranks at 180‹, the valve being reciprocated so as to open for admission to one cylinder and exhaust from the other simultaneously, comprises a cavity divided by horse-shoe shaped ribs and by partitions so that the admission channel for any one of the cylinder ends is rectilinear and lies in the same plane as the rectilinear exhaust channel for the corresponding end of the other cylinder. Fig. 1 shows a pair of double-acting cylinders with oppositely reciprocating pistons and a common cylindrical distributing slide-valve 6. The valve communicates with the cylinders through ports 7, 7<1>, 8, 8<1>, in the cylinders and corresponding ports 9, 9<1>, 10, 10<1>, 11, 11<1>, 12, 12<1>, in the shell of the valve, which open to inlet cavities 20, 20<1> in the valve ends and an exhaust cavity 23 in the middle. The valve rod 27 is reciprocated from the crank-shaft by an eccentric at right angles to each of the cranks. A modified construction with a pair of single-acting cylinders is described, the cylinders and the slide box being open at the bottom and the cavity 20<1> omitted.
