Two-stroke-cycle engines; driving-gear. - In an engine in which scavenging-air supplied by a pump and mixture compressed by the working piston are supplied in succession, the pump piston 6 is worked from a lever 8 connected by a link 9 to the connecting-rod 3. Air is compressed on the up-stroke into the space 10 and enters the cylinder when the ports 18 are uncovered. Mixture is compressed in the crankcase on the down-stroke and enters the cylinder when the ports 20 in the piston 6 register with ports 21. The exhaust may be throttled in order to prevent mixture from being blown out at low speeds under heavy load.
