Combustion Methods Of Internal-Combustion Engines
(AREA)
Abstract
6230. Macbeth, N. March 15. Gas and explosive-vapour engines.-An engine is composed of one or more units comprising two power cylinders 1, 2 with a common combustion chamber 3 and admission and exhaust ports 4, 5 respectively uncovered by the pistons. A charging- pump 11 is mounted between the cylinders, its head being below their water-jacketed parts. The pump suction valve is at the inlet end of the suction pipe, which with the belt 16 forms a clearance space. The pump piston and rod balance those of the motor cylinders. The engine will run in both directions, and is suitable for motor-cars, launches, dynamos, and other high-speed work.
