Abstract

19,520. Brown, E. Hall-. Sept. 1. Gas engines.-A two-stroke-cycle engine has the combustion chamber B<2>, the air-pump B<3>, and the gas-pump C<2> in line, the last two being separated by a diaphragm A<3>. The air and gas are sent to the combustion chamber through separate passages D', D' which serve as reservoirs, entering w h e n the piston uncovers the exhaust ports G. The pistons may control the inlet ports of the pumps. the functions of the air and gas pumps may be interchanged, and, in an engine comprising two of the units shown in Fig. 1, the pump C<2> of one unit may supply gas to the come bustion chamber of the other unit ; by this arrangement, the valves E<3>, E<4> may be dispensed with.
