Abstract

549. Soa, H. Jan. 9. Latches, sliding.-The bolt b is adapted to be held in a mid-latching position by means of a spring pawl u normally kept out of action by a hook s. When the handle p or the follower h is used to withdraw the bolt, a projection r on the handle p disengages the hook s and allows the pawl u to spring into the bolt-notch v. On slamming the door, the pawl is pressed up into engagement with the hook by the inclined side of the notch v, and the bolt shoots fully forward, sufficient play being provided between the intermediate lever f and the bolt b or the handle p to ensure that the projection r does not again come into contact with the hook. A turn-bolt z may be used to lock the latch.
