Abstract

14,534. Aktieselskabet de Forenede Norske Laase - og Beslagfabriker. June 17, 1913, [Convention date]. Night latches.-The latch bolt 4 is actuated through a runner-plate 1 having a pin 21 engaging a slot 5 in the bolt, and is blocked against being pressed in by a tool inserted between the door and the frame by means of a lever 23 pivoted at 22 to the plate 1 and normally taking a position between a fixed lug 31 and a shoulder 36 of the bolt. When the follower 3 is turned by the outside lock 13 or by the inside handle 15, a lever 17 pivoted to the plate 1 is first turned, and the lever 23 disengaged by a cam-surface 20 on the lever 17 engaging a pin 34 on the lever 23. The plate 1 and the bolt 4 can then be withdrawn by the follower. When the bolt and the plate shoot back after the door has been opened, the lever 23 is retained inoperative by the lever 17, but on the door being slammed and the bolt alone pressed inwards, a pin 8 on the bolt trips the lever 17 and releases the lever 23, which reengages and blocks the bolt when this springs into the striking-plate. The bolt can be held in the withdrawn position by means of a pawl 26 pivoted on the bolt. To effect this, the bolt is pushed inwards when the door is open, and the plate 1 then moved by the handle 15 until the pawl 26, no longer supported by the stud 21, falls under the action of a spring into engagement with the fixed guide 35 as shown in Fig. 6. The bolt can be released from this position by turning the handle back, by which means the stud 21 on the plate 1 engages the inclined part 29 of the pawl 26 and returns this to its inoperative position.
