7563. Cameron, W. March 30. Combined liquid and air pumps; valves, arrangement of. - Fuel and air are supplied to an internalcombustion engine by a pump, having a barrel b which forms the admission valve of the engine cylinder. Air is supplied to a chamb e r a through ports m, f in the cylinder and the pump barrel and a port i and a valve j in the piston. Fuel is supplied through the nozzle r when the piston h overruns the port g. On the return stroke, the mixture is compressed until the pressure attained exceeds the combined pressure of the air in the working cylinder and the spring e. The barrel then rises, and the mixture is ejected through holes c in the valve face. Modifications are described in which the barrel is mechanically moved, and in which it is moved by the pressure in the working cylinder. The fuel is stated to be heated by the compression in the pump.
